Invisalign – the road to perfection
Correcting malocclusions in the early stages of life is well advised, but if you didn’t have the opportunity to do so, it is never too late for orthodontic treatment. Adults infrequently decide on traditional braces for many reasons; appearance and the nature of work are often the main obstacles. Your solution to a dazzling smile is right around the corner: Invisalign, a modern method of correcting imperfections in your teeth positioning, is a discrete technique bringing outstanding results.
Malocclusion in Adults
Modern methods of orthodontic treatment offer effective correction of improper teeth positioning in adults. Although the growth process of the mandible and craniofacial bones is completed, it is not a direct indicator that your teeth cannot be appropriately positioned. In cases of very advanced malocclusions related to the development of the mandible or maxilla, it may be necessary to combine orthodontic treatment with surgical intervention.
In most adults, the length of the treatment process always depends on the degree of the condition. Invisalign is an innovative solution that allows you to straighten your teeth with transparent aligners, maintaining the highest aesthetic quality and comfort of the patient.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic technique designed to straighten out teeth with clear aligners instead of traditional metal braces. Tailored to the individual parameters and needs of the patient, Invisalign braces provide optimal comfort and ease with the expedited process compared to that of conventional methods. Invisalign is a treatment of choice for teens and adults alike due to its convenience and effectiveness. The clear braces are virtually invisible, allowing you to continue smiling with confidence throughout your journey to perfectly straight teeth.
If you are ready to take your smile to the next level, consult our proficient specialist, Dr. Shawn Van de Vyver, who, along with our skilled staff, will assist you in achieving your desired goals.
Invisalign – what are the indications?
Invisalign allows you to treat both simple and more complex malocclusions. Some of the teeth misalignments that qualify for treatment with this method include:
- Teeth crowding occurs when the maxilla or mandible cannot accommodate all the teeth;
- Gaps between teeth are formed when the jaw is too large in relation to the teeth;
- Crossbite is the result of a mismatch between the upper and lower jaws. This can cause one or more of the upper teeth to overlap the inner surface of the lower teeth, both the anterior and posterior teeth;
- Overbite occurs when the upper teeth largely overlap the lower teeth;
- Underbite bite occurs when the lower teeth protrude in front of the front teeth, which is usually the result of poor jaw development, mandibular hypertrophy, or both.
- Open bite happens when your lower and upper teeth do not close correctly.
- Crooked teeth may occur due to several reasons, such as premature loss of baby teeth, facial injury, or genetic predisposition. Childhood oral habits can also impact teeth alignment.
The Invisalign Process
Upon the consultation with Dr. Van de Vyver at Kelly Road Dental Care, proper examination of your teeth with specialized x-rays will help establish the best possible route for your unique issue. A personalized 3D model will derive a precise treatment plan to guide you through the process and provide the optimal instructions to the Invisalign laboratory, where the art is performed. With all the images and the action plan, you will be able to track your progress and see how Invisalign braces gradually perfect your teeth.
It’s Time to Wear Your Invisalign Braces!
When your set of Invisalign braces arrive, you will be asked to come in for the final fit and additional adjustments. The aligners are meant to be worn at all times throughout the day, with exceptions for eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign braces are removable at any given time.
Our dentist will instruct you to wear each set for two weeks, switching to the next set of aligners when the time comes. As your teeth straightening process progresses, Invisalign braces will begin to fit slightly loose, which is a good indicator that the treatment is working. You might be tempted to expedite the treatment by switching to new alignments early, which is highly inadvisable as it can hinder the treatment plan designed for you.
How Long Does The Treatment Last?
Typically, Invisalign treatment lasts, on average, one year. However, as with other dental procedures, the overall time varies from patient to patient, taking into account all relevant factors, such as your age and the degree of your condition. After all appropriate exams and digital images are derived, you may expect a predicted treatment time.
At Kelly Road Dental Care, we are dedicated to meet your expectations and provide the best possible solutions to your dental needs. Dr. Van de Vyver is an experienced professional with unique artistic instincts and your best interest at heart.
